A five-story penthouse at the Aman New York has sold for an astounding $135 million, marking the most expensive real estate transaction in New York City this year. This sale surpasses last month’s $115 million deal for a duplex at Central Park Tower.
The 12,500-square-foot penthouse is one of just 22 exclusive residences situated above the Aman New York hotel in the historic Crown Building, located along Billionaire’s Row at Fifth Avenue and West 57th Street. Among these, five units have fetched prices over $50 million, with one reaching $75.8 million in 2022.
Completed in 2022 by the OKO Group, led by Vlad Doronin, the Aman New York features 83 hotel rooms on the lower floors, while the private residences, designed by Belgian architect-designer Jean-Michel Gathy, occupy floors 15 through 30.
The penthouse, occupying the building’s crown-like pinnacle, was sold in an unfinished state, according to a spokesperson for OKO Group. The sale was handled by the company’s in-house brokerage.
The Crown Building, distinguished by its crown-like finial once topped with a 12-foot gold rooster, was built in 1922 by the architects of Grand Central Station, Warren & Wetmore. It was the first home of the Museum of Modern Art. Residents enjoy a private entrance and dedicated elevators to access the building’s amenities, which include three dining areas, a wine room, the 7,500-square-foot Aman Spa, and comprehensive concierge services offering everything from babysitting to private cocktail parties. Each unit is equipped with luxurious finishes such as Gaggenau kitchen appliances, demisting mirrors, and rain showers.
